He underwent his medical training at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He was associated with AIIMS New Delhi from 1981 to 1997, where he developed a robust foundation in surgical oncology.

During the tenure of his postgraduation and residency, he gained a foundation in surgical skills that is at par with the best globally. The Department of Surgical Disciplines at AIIMS was manned by surgical leaders such as Prof. MM Kapur, Prof. BML Kapur, Prof. IK Dhawan, Prof. LK Sharma, Dr. TK Chattopadhyaya, Dr. SamiranNundy, Dr. SN Mehta and many others. The department had an excellent academic and surgical training system in place. The Department of Surgical Disciplines had a large volume of surgical work including oncology surgeries. Also, the Department worked in close collaboration with the Oncology Services at Dr. BRA Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital and the students and faculty regularly participated in tumor board meetings and co-ordinated multi-disciplinary management.

From 1994 to 1997, Dr. Arun Kumar Goel worked as a senior fellow in the Surgical Oncology Department at IRCH, AIIMS. This period of training strengthened his already extensive exposure to surgical oncology with increasing focus on multimodality management and organ and function preservation surgery.

Dr. Arun Kumar Goel has worked a senior consultant in Surgical Oncology in a number of leading oncology set ups in Delhi & NCR. He has held leadership positions in the departments and driven oncology services to greater heights in these hospitals. The hospitals include:

In his last stint before joining Andromeda Cancer Hospital, he was working as Senior Director & Head, Surgical Oncology at Max Hospital Vaishali. Under his stewardship, the Oncology Services and Surgical Oncology Department both achieved greater heights in terms of complexity, variety and volume of work and became one of the best oncology facilities in Delhi & NCR region.

In addition to all these previous attachments, Dr. Goel has been associated with Central Hospital, Northern Railway, Delhi as a Visiting Consultant, Surgical Oncology. NRCH is the apex referral hospital of Northern Railways. Dr. Goel has carried out thousands of surgical procedures in Department of General Surgery, Department of Gyne & Obs, Department of ENT Head & Neck Surgery and Department of Orthopedic Surgery. He started this association in 2005 and it is ongoing after nearly 20 years. There are a large number of students in these Departments who get the benefit of exposure and training in Surgical Oncology as part of their specialty training.

Dr. Arun Kumar Goel has been trained and experienced in a wide variety of oncology surgical procedures. He is one of the most experienced and respected surgical oncologists in northern India. He is one of the leaders in open surgical procedures including all type of complex cancer surgeries.

Dr. Goel is also trained in minimally invasive (laparoscopic and thoracoscopic) surgeries for cancer as well as robotic surgeries for cancer. He is a certified robotic surgeon for the Da Vinci platform.

Dr. Goel is also a pioneer in a variety of organ and function conservation surgical procedures in GI oncology, H&N Oncology& Breast Oncology etc.

Academics and Research

Dr. Arun Kumar Goel is has extensive experience in clinical research in the field of Oncology with more than 75 publications in various indexed international and national journals.

He is also a reviewer for a number of international journals and has been regularly reviewing articles for many years.

Dr. AK Goel has driven the DNB Surgical Oncology program and Max Superspecialty Hospital, Vaishali. The initial batches have done very well and completed the program successfully. In addition to this, Dr. Goel has also been involved in the thesis of multiple students in other departments at Max Hospital Vaishali and Northern Railway Central Hospital.

Dr. Goel has been actively involved in various national and international conferences in the field of Oncology and has been regularly invited as a faculty (speaker, panelist, chairperson, etc.) in various conferences.
